She tells them about the fact that Todd and his wife Regina are estranged. Shelby spends a lot of time answering any questions that the detective and her partner asks. She calls the police who show up soon, led by Detective Carla Grady. After some investigating, Shelby finds the owner, Todd Burke, lying dead in his bathroom face down. That’s why when she drops off her last walk of the day, Pluto, she knows something is wrong as he won’t stop barking when let back into his house. The first is that of dog walker Shelby who cares deeply about these dogs and has gotten to know their personalities quite well. The novel is told from two points of view. There was no nodding off to this one, I was too engaged in the story and WHO DONE IT□ This clever, twisty novella from Samantha Downing was just the ticket. I love listening to audiobooks, however some are just so long that it takes me forever to get through them. This is an Audible Original, and available now through Amazon. I’m looking forward to trying more audiobooks, even though I did have to increase the speed (Fast reader = Semi-fast listener). Their reading kept me engaged, and I loved the inflections they used to differentiate the characters. I really enjoyed the narrators, Melanie Nichols-King and Lindsey Dorcus. All I can say is that it’s expertly handled (as per usual when it’s written by Samantha Downing), and while I don’t condone murder.I appreciate the lesson that was conveyed here. I didn’t guess the culprit OR the motive. I had a fun time trying to figure everything out. This is a fun and clever mystery with humor sprinkled throughout. Told from the perspectives of Shelby and Detective Carla Grady (who is interviewing Shelby at the scene of the crime), it soon becomes apparent that there may be more to Todd than meets the eye.and plenty of motives for the murder. On this unfortunate day, she has to use the bathroom.and finds Todd’s dead body inside the loo, on the floor. Shelby usually brings Pluto inside and leaves immediately. His owner, Todd Burke, is always at work. Shelby is a dog walker, and has just brought Pluto, a husky, back to his home. IG: been meaning to try audiobooks for awhile, and finally decided to give in.thinking what better way to test the waters than with a novella.and written by an author I love. But when the denouement played out, it put an oh-heck-yes smile on my face. There’s a very limited list of suspects, and I still didn’t guess correctly. A detective then arrives on the scene to suss out the killer. A dog walker brings a husky (all-time best doggos in the world - change my mind!) back from the dog park and finds its “owner” dead in the bathroom. What I loved most about Sleeping Dogs Lie is how the compact length of the novella cut all the fat and allowed the author to deliver one taut plot. I mean, if I’m at a buffet I’m going to eat, mkay? The “Audible Plus” catalog comes with many short exclusives like this, and based on this one I’m going to try to cram in a few more before my time is up. So many cool kids on Goodreads have been listening to this Audible Original novella written by talented suspense author Samantha Downing that I had to sign back up for an Audible trial so I could join them. I came for the dogs, stayed for the mystery, then CHEERED for the ending.
